Our Mission
To protect and serve our community through rapid emergency response, fire prevention education and community engagement, while maintaining the highest standards of training and professionalism.
This commitment drives everything we do — from responding to emergency calls at all hours, to teaching fire safety in our schools, to maintaining our apparatus and equipment in constant readiness. We are volunteers, but we hold ourselves to professional standards because our neighbors depend on us.
Our History
April 11 , 1944- Citizens of Orefield attended a public meeting for the purpose of organizing local fire protection. Originally called the Home Defense Association of Orefield and Vicinity”
The first siren was located at Leather Corner Post
January 9, 1945- The name Tri-Clover Fire Company was adopted to represent our unique foundational mission to protect parts of 3 interlocking townships in Lehigh County; Lowhill, South Whitehall, and North Whitehall.
February 11, 1945- The organization purchased property consisting of 5 acres at a cost of $1,250 with a donation of $250
June 12, 1945- The Constitution and Bylaws were adopted
The original 30’ x 40’ Engine Bay was completed with a $6,000 loan from Neffs National Bank. This is what now houses our classroom and offices.
The first fire apparatus purchased was a second-hand 1925 Stanford 250 GPM pump with 250 gallon tank purchased for $100 in 1947.
The first new truck purchased was the 1954 Dodge Pumper (500GPM/ 500 gallon tank for $9,274.85. Followed up by the new siren was installed in 1955.
October 1964- The 40’ x70’ Social Hall addition was approved for construction and completed in November of 1965 for a total cost of $29,838. The first monthly breakfast event was held July 1970 and became a staple of the region until the early 2000’s. Lines snaked up and down the dance floor, up the ramp and wrapped around the building.
September 11, 1970- Broke ground for a 2 bay addition at the front of the building.
In 1973 the kitchen was expanded with additional storage rooms at the rear of the Social Hall
Then on January 20, 1990, the fire station was dealt a devastating blow when an arson fire gutted the entrance and bays. The fire caused roughly $200,000 in damage to the building, apparatus, and firefighting equipment.
The department bounced back and added on 2 additional bays to the rear of the building in 1991 while doing the fire reconstruction.
